20 Trailblazers Leading The Way In Toto Asia

The Band Toto Asia

Toto was expanding production facilities overseas, and was doing business in France and Germany, Indonesia, Korea and Taiwan, Thailand and the People's Republic of China. North America was seen as a market that would grow for bidet and washlet toilet seats, as opposed its "base" markets in Japan and China.

Dhaniram Toto recorded Toto words so that the next generation could be able to read them. However, many words were being replaced with foreign ones, like dui, which is Bengali for verandah.

Origins

Toto's early history which began in 1917, mirrored Japan's rapid economic expansion. In the early years of its existence, the company manufactured goods to meet demand for modern and contemporary urban housing. It had the first tunnel kilns in the country to continuously produce ceramics. It also pioneered the use of automation to control production, which allows for greater efficiency and consistency.

In the late 1980s the company began expanding overseas to benefit from sales and new markets. The company established the Cera Trading Company to import and distribute other manufacturers' products to expand its range of sanitary earthenwares and plumbing fittings. This strategy helped increase sales and expand the company's market share in the world.

In the 90s, Toto began to concentrate on research and development of water-related appliances. It also improved its system of distribution to better serve customers and improve profit. The company also employed the just-in-time approach to its supply chain management as well as sales program. This resulted in a higher level of satisfaction with the customer.

Toto continued to develop toilet technology. Its latest toilet, for instance is equipped with a strong tornado flush that is more environmentally green than traditional toilets. The company also uses recycled water in its manufacturing process and has a green purchasing policy. In addition to toilets Toto produces bathtubs and faucets, as well as hand dryers that are more efficient in energy use than conventional models.

The company's first museum opened in 2015, and it has exhibitions on Toto's seminal products and their development, its group companies (all having to do with ceramics) as well as the history of plumbing and products like bath units and, in a separate gallery, Toto products sold around the world. The museum houses bathrooms with a WASHLET as well as other toilet innovations.

Before the formation of Toto members of the group did sessions with various musicians. Boz Scaggs' album Silk Degrees featured keyboardist David Paich, guitarists Mike Porcaro & Steve Lukather, drummers Jeff Porcaro & Steve Lukather. They also played on records by Steely Dan, Seals and Crofts, and Sonny and Cher.

Discography

With a name as evocative as Asia, you would expect the group to be prog kings and queens - but it's actually a fairly simple rock group. The group was formed as four-piece, and released two albums: 1979's self-titled debut and 1980's Armed to the Teeth. However, even though the group have a diverse musical background, their biggest success was in 1982 with Toto IV.

The album was a massive blockbuster but not without its problems. Record companies put the band on the place with the directive "give us an album that's a smash or we'll drop you" and the pressure was on to meet the deadline. Luckily for Toto they did, with the help of the smash hit single "Africa."

Toto's musical mastery owes a lot to their prior experience since the members had been session musicians for artists like Boz Scaggs, Steely Dan, and Seals and Crofts before starting the group. Their sonic trademark has become the standard for  1980s music, and has inspired a lot of contemporary artists.

The album begins with a hefty dose of hard rock, with songs such as Running Out of Time and Unknown Soldier showcasing the bands ability to write great AOR songs that slowly build their hooks into your. The album also has some more mellow, jazzy tracks such as The Little Things and Chinatown. The album closes with Great Expectations, a song that combines folk with distorted AOR and should sound totally wrong, but works wonderfully well.

After Toto IV The band's fortunes turned for the worse. David Hungate left to concentrate on his solo career, and the band was through various drummers. In 1984, Bobby Kimball left the group due to drug charges. The band continued to play with Michael Porcaro, Steve Lukather and Michael Porcaro.

Despite the chaos, Toto forged ahead and released Isolation, which was not as successful as IV. However, the band still managed to release another chart-topping album in 1992 with Kingdom of Desire. This album marked Toto's final lineup and the debut of Simon Phillips, a new singer.

Line-up

The band's third album, Turn Back, marked an reversion to the classic sextet style of previous albums and was a more ferocious, constant effort with a harder edge than Hydra. The more experimental sound of Turn Back reflected the development of the group. Drummer Bobby Kimball's increased virtuosity was reflected by the vocals of Joseph Williams, who had become more confident and mature.  토토 꽁머니  was sharper, more intricate, and less derivative than on previous recordings.

After touring to promote the album, the group recorded a live performance in Amsterdam which was released as a set of two CDs entitled Falling In Between Live on Eagle Records. The studio album came out just a few months later and the group went on a world-wide tour to promote it. In this time, keyboardist Greg Phillinganes filled in for Paich, and bassist David Hungate left the group to spend more time with his family.

In 1998, Paich & Lukather began searching through old tapes & demos to find songs that had never been recorded prior to. The album was released as a double album titled Then and Now in 2001. It was the band's first album that did not contain the single track "A". The album also contained an previously unreleased track called "Kari-Anne".

By 2003, Toto had begun to decline in popularity. The group's fourth record, Old Is New was a commercial failure and vocalist Williams was suffering from laryngitis that restricted his singing capabilities. Additionally, Hungate returned to Nashville as a drummer, and Leland Sklar was replaced by Shem von Schroeck.

Downes, Wetton Palmer and Howe, the founding members of Asia were in England in the early part of 2006 to discuss the possibility that the band could be revived. The group, which was missing Howe who was occupied with Yes during that period, was later renamed Toto XIV. They toured extensively.

In 2010, the band reunited for another reunion tour with a slightly different line-up, including guitarists Mike Porcaro and Steve Lukather, drummer John Pierce, bassist Shannon Forrest, and multi-instrumentalists Warren Ham and Dominique Taplin. The band also featured a guest appearance by singer Michael McDonald, and a backing singer named Mabvuto Carpenter.
